World Philosophy Day: Philosophy challenges Politics
November 14, 2011 @ 7:30 pm - 10:30 pm
FreeThe World Philosophy Day takes place each year on the third Thursday of November (UNESCO – 2005), which falls this year on November 17. Every time, we celebrate it with a series of encounters and under one general theme.
We chose as this year’s theme “CIVILIZATION”.
Plato, the great philosopher, explains that civilization is like a pyramid, its 4 faces being POLITICS, ART, SCIENCE and SPIRITUALITY.
So here’s what we suggest: to dedicate one day for each face of the pyramid, with the motto “When Philosophy challenges…”
Philosophy is the “LOVE FOR WISDOM”. But be it in Politics, in Art, in Science or even in Spirituality, what we see these days has more to do with ignorance than with true knowledge, with talking than with doing, with confusion than with clarity, with emptiness than with value…
Philosophy challenges Politics:
– Is a citizen only defined by his ID?
– What is freedom? Is there “fake” freedom?
– How does Wisdom protect against anarchy?
– What does social justice mean in a philosophical context?
– What do ALL politicians have to learn from philosophy?
The event will be a SEMINAR FOLLOWED BY A SOCRATIC DEBATE.
We will start every day at 7:30 PM until 10:30 PM
